Designing your home with your kid’s health and happiness is important nowadays. As a parent, you naturally want to do everything that you can to ensure that your kids have everything that they need to excel in life. Over the last eighteen months or so, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many parents to start working from home, meaning they are spending more time at home with their kids, whilst also trying to manage their work obligations.

While spending more time with your kids is always welcome, you need to ensure that your home is set up to keep them entertained. Finding unique ways to allow your kids to stay active at home will encourage them to move more instead of being stuck on the couch watching TV or playing video games. Installing outdoor play equipment is always a solid choice. The key is to choose play equipment that is fun, safe and that your children will actually be interested in using.

Let’s take a look at a few other helpful home additions that will keep your kids happy and healthy when you are all spending more time at home.

Put Up a Basketball Net

If you want your kids to spend more time outside, a basketball net is one of the simplest, straightforward additions that you can make to your home. Parents that have a concrete driveway can attach the hoop to the front of their home so the kids can use the driveway as their court.

If you don’t have that kind of space, you can always opt for a free-standing basketball net that can be raised to different heights as your kids grow older and taller.

Install a Swing Set

For younger kids, a swing set is a great addition to any home. If possible try to set it up somewhere that you can keep an eye on from inside your home, just in case someone has a fall.

If you want your older children to stay active and play on the swings without the need for supervision, just be sure to put playground safety rules in place from the get-go. Make sure that there is only ever one child allowed on a single swing at a time, and be sure to hammer home the golden rule that you never walk behind a moving swing.

Buy a Trampoline

Trampolines come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and have become increasingly popular over the last few years. A safe trampoline is a great addition to any backyard, and can provide your kids with hours of endless entertainment. Opt for a model with a safety net around it to prevent any potential slips.

The more secure the netting of your trampoline is, the safer it will be, as your kids will be able to bounce both off the trampoline itself as well as off its netting. And of course, one of the best things about buying a trampoline is that when the kids get tired, the adults can play too!

Get a Goal

Regardless of whether your kids are budding footy, soccer or rugby players, putting up some goals in your backyard will help to keep them healthy and active with minimal fuss. Not only will they tire themselves out with mini-backyard tournaments, but having a goal to aim at instead of the sidewall of your house will mean fewer paint touch-ups for you moving forward.

Let them kick or throw whatever shape ball they like into the net over and over, instead of disturbing you while you try to work by kicking the ball off the outside of the house.

Setup a Sandpit

For younger children, there’s nothing better than spending time playing in a sandpit and pretending that you’re at the beach. Young kids love the tactile experience of sandpits and generally enjoy building sandcastles, digging little holes, and playing with their toy figurines in the sand. Not only are sandpits a great way to keep your little ones active but they can also be brilliant for encouraging them to be more imaginative and creative when they’re playing outside.

Build a Treehouse

Whilst many homeowners may not have a tree big enough to accommodate a treehouse, if you’re one of the lucky ones, this is a brilliant way to spend time with your kids and do something fun together. Although you will most likely have to take the lead with the planning and the building, be sure to get your children involved along the way. The act of building the treehouse will be hard work. Once it’s completed, however, you can be confident that your kids will have countless adventures for years to come.

In fact, for many children having a treehouse at home will be one of those fond childhood memories that they will continue to look back on when they’re older.

Outdoor Toys

Having a selection of outdoor toys and sports equipment for your children to play with will help to keep them happy and healthy when they’re hanging out at home. Most children will get bored of a single task quickly, so having a plethora of items for them to choose from will help to keep them entertained for much longer.

They can use their assortment of outdoor play items to build obstacle courses, have garden adventures, or make up a myriad of their own games and activities. With lots of toys and sports equipment to play with, you can be sure that your children will never again be short of something active to do.

Make Sure That Your Kids Have Everything They Need to Be Happy & Healthy

Spending time outside in the sunshine is important for children when they’re growing up. In the modern tech-driven world we live in, it’s easier than ever to hand your children a screen in an effort to get them to relax and give you some peace and quiet. It’s only through outdoor play, however, that your kids will stay active and healthy, both physically and emotionally.

By providing them with a fun environment where they can enjoy spending time outside with friends and family, your kids will reap all the benefits that come with breathing in fresh air, soaking up some vitamin D, and enjoying an active and unforgettable childhood.

Stay healthy and happy at home!
