Here are 5 easy ways to create an eco-friendly home office, getting you as green as possible.

1. LED Lighting

If you use LED lights in your home office you will use less energy, and your lights will last longer. LED’s can last up to fifty thousand hours, which is much more than traditional light bulbs.

LED lighting also comes in many different styles, shapes, and sizes, allowing them to fit into any eco-friendly home office design.

2. Energy saving laptop

What would your ‘green’ home office be without an energy saving computer ?  When it comes to energy saving laptops, the possibilities are endless. Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, and others, all make energy efficient laptops.

3. Eco-friendly furniture

This is the fun part. There are so many eco-friendly furniture options. We’ve seen furniture made out of pretty much everything, adding a creative and unique touch to almost every home design.

To be considered eco-friendly, the materials used for the furniture should be able to safely return to the soil or the industry for reuse.

4. Use less paper

This one is an easy one. Instead of faxing, you can email. Instead of writing on paper, take notes on your computer or if you have a smartphone, you can use an app for notes. There are also apps and programs that allow you to digitally sign papers and contracts, effectively reducing paper use. If your work can’t go without a few pieces of paper, at least make sure you use recycled paper.

5. Use recycled or eco-friendly office supplies

You can find recycled office supplies such as ink and toner cartridges, recycled pens or refillable pens, and anything else you might need.

And there you are. You are on your way to a completely ‘green’ office.
