Everyone loves the allure that comes with a clean home, but few people want to actually do the chore regularly. The good thing is that there are better ways to clean your home and leave it sparkling within a short period of time.

When cleaning a home, most people aren’t sure whether they need to dust the fixtures first or vacuum them.  Some even wonder which places to start with. Should you go for the bedrooms, kitchen, or bathroom first?

The reality of the matter is that you don’t have to spend too much time in rubber gloves to get your home cleaned up. Here are eight useful tips to enable you to clean your home better:

Vacuuming The Floor

#1 Pick a Single Task and Do It in Every Room

If you want to clean your home easier and more efficiently, consider cleaning the entire house and not just one room. The best way to do this is to pick one cleaning task, like mopping, dusting, or vacuuming, and conduct it in every room. When you do this in every room, you’ll avoid feeling like you’re engaged in a cleaning cycle that does not end.

#2 Get All the Tools You Need

Once you decide on a cleaning task, you need to gather all the cleaning tools you’ll need to complete it. When you have everything you need to complete your goal for the day, you’ll be able to do the work better and faster. This way, you won’t waste any time looking for tools that you need elsewhere. You also won’t have to worry about gathering the equipment again the next time you need to clean up your home.

If your home has been damaged by water or fire, you may not have the necessary tools or expertise to clean such damage. Instead of struggling to find tools that can handle such damages, consider hiring the services of professional cleaners.

#3 Remove All the Clutter

Before you start cleaning your home, the first thing you need to do is to remove clutter from every room. Go to each one and pick all the clutter, from paperbacks, magazines, shoes, and any other thing that needs to get out of the way.

As you collect the clutter, be clear on where each item needs to be placed. Some things, like waste papers that you no longer need, should be thrown in the dustbin. However, there are items that you might still have to store away and others that are fit for donation. Ensure that you place every item where it needs to be as you declutter the rooms in your home.

#4 Before You Vacuum Your Home, Dust It

The best way to start cleaning your home is to dust it. It’s crucial to start off by dusting the rooms because particles will fall on the floor as you do the dusting. If you vacuum the home first before dusting it, you’ll be forced to clean it a second time to remove the dirt.

Prior to dusting the house, ensure that your ceiling fans have been turned off. You should dust your furniture tops, picture frames, handrails, TV screens, and the undersides of any shelves that you may have. To dust hard-to-reach areas, such as upper shelves and blinds, consider tying a cloth on the broom or mop and wiping the surfaces gently.

#5 Vacuum-Clean Your Home

Once you’re done with dusting, it’s time to clean your home with a vacuum. As you do this, pay close attention to high-traffic areas as those carry the most dirt. During vacuuming, you need not worry about cleaning every nook and cranny. The key to getting the house clean is to move through the house while running the vacuum cleaner in each carpeted room in the home.

#6 Disinfect the Surfaces in Your Home

To ensure that your home is free of disease-causing organisms, disinfect surfaces, particularly those that are likely to bring germs to people’s faces and fingers. Some important surfaces to disinfect include countertops, cabinets, appliances, light switches, telephones, doors, cabinet knobs, and TV remotes. You can buy disinfectants to get this done or make some at home by mixing water with white or apple cider vinegar.

Cleaning The Stove

#7 Clean the Sinks, Tubs, and Toilets

As you go through the home, ensure that you clean the sinks, bathtubs, and toilets. The easiest way to eliminate dirt and germs from your kitchen sinks, bathtubs, and bathroom sinks is to spray a cleaner. Apply the cleaner by spraying it on the surfaces and let it sit for a few minutes. This allows it to dissolve any stains and dirt that may be present on the sinks, tubs, or toilets.

Once the dirt has dissolved, use a scrubber to remove it. For the toilet, use bleach to clean the bowl. The easiest way to do this is to apply the bleach and leave it to sit throughout the night. Once morning comes, brush it with a toilet brush and flush.

#8 Clean the Microwave and Garbage Bin

While in the kitchen, wipe the interior part of the microwave to remove any dirt that may be lodged in there.  If you don’t like the arm work that goes with scrubbing the microwave, there’s an easier way to get the job done. Get a mug and fill it with water. Place it in the microwave and cook it at high temperatures for a minute. Leave the steam to loosen the grime, then use a cloth to wipe the dirt off. To ensure that your microwave has a fresh smell, place a cup with lemon juice and leave it to run in the microwave for a minute.

As you work in the kitchen, ensure that your garbage disposal bin is in good shape. The easiest way to do this is to use baking soda and vinegar. To remove food remains from the bin, pour a cup of white vinegar and half a cup of baking soda. Leave the mixture to sit for fifteen minutes, then pour hot water in the bin to flush it out.

Final Thoughts

Cleaning your home often is a great way to keep it looking good and feeling fresh. As you apply the tips discussed above, you can also make cleaning your home better by making the cleaning process a team effort. The best way to do this is to schedule cleaning time with your family in advance and assign each person a task to perform. This makes cleaning your home fun, and cleaning chores are completed faster.
