So, here you are, standing at the gate of your garage overstuffed with so much, you can’t even move around, let alone park the car, and desperately thinking … “Where has all this stuff come from?!” … and more importantly! … “How to deal with it?”

Well, the “Where from”- question – easy. It’s been years since you moved in. And as life went on, new things appeared and the old ones had to go, and even some of the new things would not to be kept in the house. This would explain the piles of boxes and bags, wouldn’t it!

Now … the “How to”- question may prove to be quite a challenge. There’s no more place to store things around the house. And the backyard is already “charmingly” littered with kids’ toys, bicycles, garden tools and whatever not… Unless… you get smart and find a rational solution.

Have you happened to consider the idea of building a dedicated backyard shed? It may cost to build a shed but it’s totally worth it!

Here are 7 reasons why you should have a backyard shed

#1 Storage. Obviously!

Quoting from a wildly popular movie, a shed in your backyard would store all“things that were, things that are, and some things, that have not yet come to pass” … Think, boxes holding childhood memories, family heirlooms and old furniture pieces, tools and appliances, large toys, holiday decorations, supplies … Why! Even the bicycles and the BBQ might fit in during the winter months! All these things, neatly stashed away to access when (and only when!) you need them.

And when those get moved to their new “home”, what’s left is space – free of clutter, free to enjoy, and free to find a better use of.

#2 Safe keeping

Having a safe, tidy and well-groomed home requires using tools. From screwdrivers and hammers, to shovels and rakes, to a weedwhacker and a lawnmower, these all need to be safely kept and taken care of. The money some of them cost you!

A backyard shed would then be the ideal “vault” to keep your investments in tools and mechanical equipment safe from negligence, weathering, unwelcome human contact and even theft.

#3 Workshop

If you are into making and fixing things, you’d surely need a dedicated space to work in. Still, the other members of the family might not necessarily share your passion for your hobby or craftsmanship. And when you are working on your projects in the house, they might not easily put up with all the noise or (sometimes quite unpleasant!) odors coming from your improvised indoor work studio.

A workshop shed, safely tucked away somewhere in the backyard, can however solve all such issues. For such a building will provide a dedicated not-disturbed and not-disturbing space for you to get creative with and enjoy your handyman and DIY projects at any time.

#4 Having a green thumb?

When you are passionate about gardening, and plants, and all things fresh, wouldn’t it be great to have your own greenhouse right in your backyard?! So, you might consider building your own conservatory-shed where you can grow beautiful flowers, fresh herbs and other plants, and where you can also keep all needed gardening tools and equipment safe and for easy access.

#5 A “home away from home”

Should your backyard area allow it, you might consider having a somewhat larger outbuilding set there. True, it will cost to build a shed of a more considerable size and to properly furnish it, but think about the multiple wonderful opportunities it can offer! This could be:

  • a cozy outdoor retreat to spend some time alone in peace and quiet;
  • a homey outdoor living room to welcome friends and guests;
  • a private lady shed or a “boys-only” mancave to enjoy the company of your closest friends;
  • or even a fun playhouse, the kids would go crazy about.

Tempting, isn’t it?! And all you’ll need is do some careful planning, choose proper design and be smart about finding the right solutions.

If you’re still not convinced about the great benefits you could enjoy from having a backyard shed, here are two more reasons to dispel any further doubts.

#6 “Sugar n’ spice and all things nice”

Usually small, single-story, single-room outbuildings, sheds come in various structures, sizes and styles, depending on their intended use. Whatever their purpose, however, sheds tend to often get designed featuring some attractive architectural elements, like for example a charming color-tiled sloped roof, window shutters, or a wall-size gate that would, when completely open, transform the shed into a posh cabana lounge. So, on top of all other a.m. practical aspects, such a building would definitely make your backyard look way more attractive and eye-pleasing.

#7 Let’s talk money!

Finally, but by far not least important is that having a dedicated shed in your backyard would seriously increase the market value of your property. It is its versatile intended use that makes this otherwise modest building a highly sought-after asset that makes any property stand out on the real estate market and attract more potential buyers with deeper pockets.
